24 Read-a-Thon Reading Challenge: On Food and Books (Hour 9)

This Challenge is now closed
The Winner is: Ariel!

Hello everyone and welcome to this mini-challenge. How is it going? Feeling tired yet? How about hungry?

It has happened to all of us. We are reading our book and then they talk about food; food that is described so perfectly that you start to salivate. It might be an actual dish like every chapter of Like for Chocolate, it might be fantastic and sadly not real like the carnival food of The Night Circus. The later are my favorite since it inspires me to try something different. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So here is the challenge my fellow Read-a-Thoners: Make a post where you will share your best "book-inspired" recipe and explain its origin, inspiration, etc. Be as original as you want; as whimsical as you feel. If you do not have a blog, don't worry, just leave your entry on the comments down here :)

Leave your name and the link to your post in the Rafflecopter down here. The winner will get a book from the Book Depository of 15 CAD (or the equivalent). This challenge will be open for the next 3 hours, hence finishing at the beginning of hour 12

Hope you have fun!

Mini Bloggiesta To Do!

Well, this will be my first time participating in the mini Bloggiesta. I was thinking that I need to do some work on my blog and I think this is the perfect opportunity to join!

So here is my (tiny) To-Do List, not a lot, because I already have some painting to do at home and a house warming party to attend, mind you, but I think I shall be able to do this

  • Update my reviewed archive as well as my challenge related tabs
  • I am only a bit behind on reviews, so let's make it at least one review to post over the week-end
  • It has been a while since I do a non-review post so I shall do one too.
  • Participate in the Twitter party, now that I have a Twitter account
  • Change my banner to the summer one!

So that's it. It looks doable, don't you think? If you are interested in joining Go HERE to read all about it and sign yourself up.

24h Read-a-Thon (Spring 2014): Hour 24 and End of Event Meme

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
At hour 20 I just couldn't hold my head up, so I gave up and went to bed.

2.Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
From this event's reading list I would suggest The Golem and the Jinni or  Going Over. They are very different books, yet they both share characteristics that made them quite engaging for me.

3.Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
As I mentioned in the mid-event meme, I believe that you guys have done a wonderful work so I can't really think of anything that the event would be missing, IMOO.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
I was a amazed by how many VERY different challenges were. I think the variety of activities we had this year help me to change my mind when I needed, during my tiny breaks.

5. How many books did you read?
I manage to finish 4 books this year. I started a fifth, but didn't advance much in it.

6.What were the names of the books you read?
Going Over by Beth Kephart; Delirio by Laura Restrepo; The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker; The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle

7.Which book did you enjoy most?
This year I do not have a favorite; basically since the books I read were so different from one another, they all had a lot to offer to me. I was very satisfied with my selection.

8.Which did you enjoy least?
I am very happy to say that there wasn't a book that I read in this event that I didn't enjoy!.

9.If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
I wasn't a cheerleader this year...I will say however that I would've liked to have a bit more of comments from the group that was supporting me. Karsyn from Karsyn's Kickass Jocoserious, Kooky, Jannock book blog (wow that's a mouthful!) Did a wonderful job though. I hate to sound like I am complaining, and I do know that this year we had 800 people to cheer for! But a bit more of presence would've been nice.

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

I definitely would like to participate again in the Fall; I'm thinking since I've only been a Cheerleader once, I would like to do that, and maybe even be a team leader?. For sure I would like to host another challenge, I have so much fun coming up with those!

Here is my entry for Page 35, I also left it in the comments section.

From The Last Unicorn
“I enjoyed that” Mommy Fortuna said to Rukh. “I always do. I guess I’m just stagestruck at heart” (end of original text)
Fortuna always felt that rush of excitement after leaving the set. Being an adult film star had it’s ups and downs, but, she told herself, at least she was acting, like she always wanted. If only she wasn’t ashamed of her work; if only she could share it with her family back in the country…

Mid-Event Meme

1. What are you reading right now?
I am finishing The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
2. How many books have you read so far?

Only 2 :/
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

Since I should be done with my "To Finish" stack I think I'm going to read The Giver, but mostly I can't wait to read The Last Unicorn.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?

Oh man, yes, an unexpected experiment made wake up at 5h30 am to be at the lab at 6h so I could be free all day to read...but it was worth it!
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

No many so far, except self imposed, to stretch and exercise a bit.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

I don't know if surprise is the word, but every time I do this I feel this bliss, just curled in my chair, enjoying a day dedicated to books.
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

You guys always do a terrific job, I can't think of anything right now.
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?

Hopefully get more sleep and not have an even earlier morning, hehe.
9. Are you getting tired yet?

Not yet, no.
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?

Well, this year is the first time that I had put a bit of movement in my Read-a-Thon and I think that has helped to feel more awaken and energized.

Hoppi has been making this face all day begging to get pet. He gets like that every time he sees me reading.  I also did some stretches with Blogilates. Do you know her? I love her videos on YouTube, I am doing her Beginner's Calendar now, and I have to say, I'm so happy with the results, and it has been only a week!
