What am I reading this month: October

I just can't believe the weather today. It's 2 degrees outside. I guess fall is definitely here, let's just hope it's not a cold one. On the bright side, I have several reads to keep me cozy!
 
For my reading more in Spanish goal I will be reading El amor es una droga dura (Love is a hard drug) by  Cristina Peri Rossi, an Uruguayan author, so this will also play a part on my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here).

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson. I just finished listening to the podcast and apparently it has been compared to Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, so I have high hopes for it.
 
For my "reading more CanLit" goal I am going to read Stone Mattress by Margaret Atwood (don't you love that cover??) since as you probably have noticed, I love everything she writes.

On nonfiction, I am reading The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison. I've been meaning to read it for a while and it will go to count as my "A Book published by and Indie press" from the Read Harder Challenge. Also for this challenge, I will be reading Le vieux qui ne voulait pas fêter son anniversaire (The old guy who didn't want to celebrate his birthday) by Jonas Jonasson, which will be my "A book that someone else has recommended to you". It was recommended by my Thesis adviser actually, and so far it is hilariously weird.

And last but not least, to finish the RIP challenge this year, I will be reading Before She Dies by Mary Burton, a book that has been long waiting in my shelves to be read.

What am I reading this month: September and R.I.P X

Hello everyone. I noticed I hadn't done one of this since June!. But today I had the time and also I am using this post as my oficial R.I.P registration, so, let's get into it.

For my reading more in Spanish goal I will be reading Lo que Escondian sus Ojos (What was hidden in her eyes) by  Nieves Herrero. Now, I've tried to keep to Latin American authors for my Spanish reading, mainly because there are a lot of expressions that change, but I've heard good things about this one and it was available at the library, so here we are.
For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr. I am intrigued by this one, since in their last podcast they mentioned this is one of the first "post apocalyptic" books, so that's definitely interesting.
For my "reading more CanLit" goal and the pick for the Hello Hemlock book club, we will be reading Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson, which will also go towards my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here). I will also be (finally) reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel as a Canadian author.
On nonfiction, I am reading (well, listening) to Origins by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I love the author and the work he does in vulgarization of science, so I am quite exited to listen to this one.

 

Besides those, I will also read Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffeneger. I got this book on a library sale right after I had read The Time Traveler's Wife but I hadn't put myself to reading it.

 

On the other hand,  in case you missed it, this year R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril X will be hosted by The Estella Society and off course I am participating. However, unlike on previous years, I think I am going to play it safe and just go with 2 books, which is Peril the Second.

 

My choices are: Before She Dies by Mary Burton, a mystery that has been sitting on my shelf for years now; and Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell, another mystery but a YA this time. Usually I manage to read a bit more than 2 books for R.I.P X, specially with the Read-A-Thon coming on October, but most of the books I am choosing this month are print and fairly big which reduces my commute reading. But we will see.

What am I reading this month: June

Hello everyone! Could someone please explain to me how is i that we are in June and I had to wear a scarf, sweater and gloves to work today? Because I sure don't gt it. 

But anyway, enough complaining. It's a new month and I have new books to tackle! Let's see:

For my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here) and reading more in Spanish goal I will be reading De como las muchachas García perdieron el acento (How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents)by Julia Alvarez. I loved the last book I read from her, and this one has been in my radar for a while so I am finally getting to it.

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading City of Stairs  by Robert Jackson Bennett

For my "reading more CanLit" goal and continuing with a (great) series I will be reading The Year of the Flood (MaddAddam #2) by Margaret Atwood

On nonfiction, I am reading The Only Woman in the Room by Ellen Pollack, a book I got through NetGalley

My last pick for this Once Upon a Time Challenge is The Brides of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan.

And finally, to work on the Read Harder challenge I will be listening to Almost Women: Stories by Megan Mayhew Bergman.
Out of those 6 books, I own 4 of them, so I am also working on my "reading more of the books I already own" goal. As you can see there is a lot of diversity in this month, both in authors and subjects.

For my "reading more CanLit" goal, the Hello Hemlock book club will be reading Bone and Bread.

On nonfiction, I am reading 2 books this month: Black Milk: On Writing, Motherhood and  the Harem Within by Elif Shafak and The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Muckerjee.

I will finish the Beautiful Creatures series with Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and I will continue the Grisha Trilogy with Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. They are also my picks for this month for the Once Upon a Time Challenge.

Out of those 6 books, I own 4 of them, so I am also working on my "reading more of the books I already own" goal. As you can see there is a lot of diversity in this month, both in authors and subjects.

Hello everyone! here is what I will be reading this month...or at least what I am planing to be reading.

For my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here) and  reading more in Spanish goal: Inés del Alma Mia by Peruvian author Isabel Allende. I'm also reading L'oubli que nous serons by Colombian author Héctor Abad. I am reading it in French, since it was given to me already in this edition. 

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading Wyrd Sisters by Sir Terry Pratchett

For my "reading more CanLit" goal, I will be reading The View from Castle Rock by Alice Munro

On nonfiction I will be reading How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran

To finally finsih the Southern Trilogy, I also got Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer.

Out of those 6 books, I own 4 of them, so I am also working on my "reading more of the books I already own" goal. 

Now, very important too, this month is Dewey's 24h Read-a-Thon!!! Did you register yet? no? Well, go on, I will wait. Done?. Ok, so as I was saying, since the Read-a-Thon is coming I have set some other books I want to read for that day, but I am keeping that list for later. I haven't used my Audible credits yet, so those are out of this list for now too.

What am I reading this month: March

 Hello everyone! here is what I will be reading this month...or at least what I am planing to be reading.

For my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here) and  reading more in Spanish goal: Mi abuelo explicaba muy bien a los Pájaros (My grandfather explained the birds very well) by Colombian author Ivan Castro Rodelo.

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.

For my "reading more CanLit" goal, the Hello Hemlock book club will be reading Moving Forward Sideways like a Crab by Shani Mootoo. It also touches LGBTQ subjects, which adds to my reading diversely

On nonfiction, and as a "self-help" book for the Read Harder challenge I will be reading Popular by Maya Van Wagenen. For this challenge, but for poetry, I will also read Wife of the House by Gudrun Mouw

To continue the Southern Trilogy, I also got Authority by Jeff Vandermeer.

What am I reading this month: February

Hello everyone! here is what I will be reading this month...or at least what I am planing to be reading.

For my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here), reading more in Spanish goal AND more nonfiction I will be reading: Las Hijas de Juarez (Daughters of Juarez): Un auténtico relato de asesinatos en serie al sur de la frontera by Teresa Rodriguez. An investigation about the mass murders that took place in Juarez, Mexico.

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading Annihilation by Jeff VanDermeer, and I cannot tell you how exited I am to get to read it!

For my "reading more CanLit" goal, I am starting the MaddAddam trilogy with Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.

Another book for my nonfiction and Diversifying count will be Is Everyone Hanging Out without me? by Mindy Kaling, and also in audio I will be finishin Lock In by John Scalzi that I started in January.

And finally, review copies: from NetGalley I have Queen Sugar by Natalie Baszile (more diverse authors); from LybraryThing I received a copy of  Every Breath by Ellie Marney; I also got a copy of The Evening Chorus by Helen Humphreys from the  publisher.

Out of those 8 books, I own 6 of them, so I am also working on my "reading more of the books I already own" goal. 

I also have to finish Death in the City of Light, that I started in January but haven't finished yet!

What am I reading this month: January

Hello everybody! First of all Happy New Year! I hope all of your wishes/goals come to be realized and that you have lots of health and happiness!

I am starting a new monthly post, telling you what I will be reading for the month! It should also help me to keep better track of my reading :D. So let us start

For my Diversifying 2015 challenge (you can sign up here) I will be reading Lovetorn by Kavita Daswani. This book was recommended on BookRiot and I am very exited to read it.

For my "reading more in Spanish" goal, I will be reading Solo en Berlín (Every Man Dies Alone) by Hans Fallada. While this book wasn't originally written in Spanish, a lot of people in my family read it and loved it and my aunt left her copy here, so I decided to start it.

For my "reading more nonfiction" goal, I will be reading Death in the City of Light by David King. The book is about a serial killer in Paris during the Nazi Occupation and I bought it on a whim after reading the synopsis. 

For the Sword and Laser Book Club, we will be reading The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about this one; hopefully I will get it from my library this week.

For my "reading more CanLit" goal, and with the Hello Hemlock book club, we will be reading As for me and my House by Sinclair Ross. Once again, I am still waiting for my copy from the library.

For my "finishing series" goal I will be listening to Imago by Octavia E. Butler, the third and final book in the Xenogenesis series. 

In december I also got The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, but I didn't started it, so I think I will be listening to that one too. 

And finally, from NetGalley I am lucky to have a copy of Spinster by Kate Bolick. 

Out of those 8 books, I own 5 of them, so I am also working on my "reading more of the books I already own" goal. 

Seems like a lot, I know, but particularly the audio books pass in a blur, with commuting, and with the coldest months getting here, nothing better than to have something to curl up with.
